Real Estate Photo Shoot Prep Checklist

A little prep before your shoot means better photos, faster editing, and a listing that’s ready to attract buyers the moment it goes live. Walk through this checklist before your photographer arrives.

Lighting & Windows

Open all blinds and curtains

Natural light is one of the biggest factors in great 7real estate photos. Nicely wrap or tuck away any blind cords, and style the drapes so they hang evenly.

Turn on every light in the house

Lamps, overheads, under-cabinet lighting - even during the day. Tuck lamp cords out of sight as best you can.

Turn off all ceiling fans

Spinning blades blur in photos and video.

Cleaning & Surfaces

Dust TVs, screens, and countertops

Dust shows up more than people expect under HDR lighting.

Give windows, mirrors, TVs, and appliances a streak-free clean

Stainless steel especially shows fingerprints and smudges on camera.

Vacuum, sweep, and mop all floors.

Decluttering

Clear and wipe down every counter

The more minimal the surface - no cables, chargers, mail, or dish racks - the cleaner and more spacious the room will look.

Push in all dining and desk chairs evenly

Small alignment details like this make a big difference in how "finished" a room looks.

Stash remaining clutter in a closet or room that won't be photographed

Just let your photographer know which spaces are off-limits, so nothing gets shot by accident.

On Shoot Day

Plan for people and pets.

Arrange for kids to be out of the house or occupied (a sitter can help), and keep pets in a crate, a car, or with a neighbor during the shoot. It keeps the process faster and the photos distraction-free.

Quick Recap

Following this checklist helps your shoot run faster and gets your listing photo-ready the moment your gallery is delivered.
